The middle school league was created before the start of the 2007/08 school year and began with six schools. Over the past three years the Chicago Middle School Debate League (CMSDL) has more than doubled the number of participating schools, from six to twelve, through concerted expansion efforts and the support of the CDC’s private partners. With the partnership of the Office of Extending Learning Opportunities and the Office of Student Support and Engagement, both within CPS, and the Chicago Debate Commission, it has grown to 22 schools and nearly 300 students in 2011/12.
