The Chicago Debate Summer Institute
The Chicago Debate Summer Institute is back; this year serving both High School and Middle School debaters. The CDSI was designed to replicate the educational impact of university debate institutes costing thousands of dollars, and Chicago established one of the largest and most high-impact urban debate summer camps in the nation.
The CDSI has a finely honed curriculum that emphasizes skills building, aligned with the CDL Debater Development Benchmarks, and topic immersion. The CDSI serves every level of debate experience — from raw beginner just recently recruited, to National Circuit Varsity elim round veteran — with carefully drawn lab groupings, instructor placement, and individualized learning strategies that ensure that every student attending the CDSI leaves it a markedly improved debater, and ready for Tournament One.

Middle School: July 29- Aug 2

The Northwestern University Debate Society and the Chicago Debate Commission are providing four selected CDL students with full coverage of tuition and room and board for the 2013 Northwestern University High School Debate Institute between July 13th and August 10th, 2013.
These scholarships are valued at almost $5,000 each and will enable four of our students to attend one of the nation’s very best high school competitive academic debate summer camps. Additionally the Northwestern University Chicago Scholars will be taught by the best instructors at the institute – last summer’s lab leader was a 2013 National Debate Tournament Finalist. And the Northwestern University Chicago Scholars program is one that Northwestern views as a recruitment mechanism for its undergraduate college; winning a scholarship could be a first step to attending Northwestern University after high school graduation.
The Northwestern University Chicago Scholars program is only open to current 9th graders (students who will be in 10th grade in the 2013/14 school year) from LCC, “A,” and “AA” Conferences. (RCC students are eligible for regular scholarship support from NU).
